Selectarc PHOSBRAZ 738
PHOSBRAZ 738 is a copper-phosphorous brazing alloy specifically designed for automated furnace brazing applications. It’s formulated for use in copper-to-copper joints and also compatible with cuprous alloys like bronze and brass, particularly when combined with Phosbraz flux. This alloy is known for its low melting temperature and excellent fluidity, resulting in energy savings. Importantly, it operates as a self-fluxing alloy, eliminating the need for additional flux. Due to its composition, it is *not* suitable for joining steel or materials containing iron, nickel, or cobalt, as it leads to the formation of brittle phases in the joint.
PHOSBRAZ 738 is primarily utilized in workshop environments for automated oven brazing. It excels in joining copper to copper and offers compatibility with cuprous alloys with Phosbraz flux. Its low melting point allows for rapid heating cycles. Typical applications include electrical components, plumbing, and air conditioning/refrigeration systems where service temperatures range from +150˚C to -20˚C. The alloy’s characteristics make it suitable for achieving strong, reliable joints, though specific considerations must be taken regarding material compatibility (avoiding steel and alloys containing Fe, Ni, Co).
