Selectarc B72
The Selectarc B72 is a high-strength, basic coated electrode designed for root passes on fine-grain steels. It delivers excellent toughness and high yield strength, typically between 550 and 700 MPa. This electrode is suitable for welding a wide range of steel grades, including construction steels (DIN 17100), high-strength steels (NF A 36-207, 16MND5), and those conforming to ASTM standards (A202 Gr A & B, A236 F & B, A238GrB, A486Gr90, A607Gr70, A615Gr60, A706 Gr60) and API standards (X65, X70). Proper post-weld heat treatment, including redrying at 350°C for 2 hours and potential preheating (up to 100°C), along with thermal stress relieving at 600°C for 2 hours, is recommended to ensure optimal mechanical properties.
This electrode is particularly recommended for root passes on fine-grain steels requiring high yield strength, such as those used in the fabrication of travelling cranes, rails, and other structural components. It’s a versatile choice for welding various steel grades in construction, shipbuilding, and heavy machinery applications. The recommended post-weld heat treatment procedures are critical for achieving the specified mechanical properties and ensuring long-term weld integrity.
