This ER312 wire is a high-ferrite solid wire specifically designed for Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) of dissimilar steels. It’s particularly well-suited for welding challenging materials such as tool steels, manganese steels, and spring steels. The resulting metal deposit boasts excellent crack resistance and is easily machinable. It’s commonly used for heterogeneous assemblies and as a buffer layer before hardfacing operations, alongside the creation of cutting tools.
