Selectarc PHOSBRAZ CPA5

PHOSBRAZ CPA5 is a manual brazing alloy based on a copper-phosphorus-silver (Cu-P-Ag) composition with 5% silver. This alloy is specifically designed for capillary brazing applications, particularly in combustible installations and low-temperature environments. Its key feature is the silver addition, which significantly lowers the melting point, improving ductility and enhancing the mechanical properties and electrical conductivity of the brazed joint. It is critical to note the limitations regarding its use with sulphur-containing media and ferrous materials (steel and alloys containing iron, nickel, or cobalt) due to the formation of brittle phases and potential degradation of corrosion resistance.

PHOSBRAZ CPA5 is recommended for hard brazing of copper and optionally copper brass pipes in combustible installations. It is particularly suitable for air conditioning and refrigeration applications, where it can be used at service temperatures ranging from +150°C to -50°C, maintaining strength. Due to its composition, it’s unsuitable for use with sulphur-containing media and should not be used to join steel or iron-containing alloys. Proper consideration must be given to joint design and metallurgical interactions to ensure optimal brazed joint performance.
